What RealCam collects, why, where it is kept and how long. Last updated: 28 October 2026.
Who we are
RealCam (the RealCam Hub Windows app, the RealCam apps for iPhone and Android, this website and the RealCam account service) is made and run by Léo Laune, 1273 route du Chef-Lieu, 74360 Vacheresse, France ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
Contact for anything about your data: leolaune30@me.com.
In short
- Your camera picture and motion data go from your phone to your own PC over your local network. They never reach our servers.
- Your recordings stay on your PC and, if you save them, on your phone.
- To check your membership we use your Patreon account: we store your Patreon identifiers, name, e-mail address and membership status.
- No advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your data.
- Diagnostic reports are sent only when you choose to send one, and personal details are removed first.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign in with Patreon, Patreon tells us your Patreon member and user identifiers, your name, your e-mail address and your membership state (active or not, the amount you pledge, whether it is a free trial or a gift, and your last and next charge dates). We do not receive your payment details: Patreon handles all payments.
If you received a RealCam access code instead, we store the account it belongs to, the name it was created for and its validity dates. Codes themselves are stored only in hashed form.
Your devices
Each installation of RealCam Hub and of the phone apps creates a random installation identifier. We store it (hashed) with a short device label (for example "RealCam Hub", "iPhone 16 Pro · iOS 26" or "Pixel 9 · Android 16"), the platform, the app version and when it was last used. This is how we limit the number of devices per account and let you or us sign a device out. Your PC name is not sent.
Sign-in sessions and access checks
Sign-in sessions and the signed access pass the apps renew every few hours contain your account and installation identifiers and expiry dates. Session tokens are stored in hashed form.
Update checks
RealCam Hub asks for updates with its version, update channel, platform and processor architecture.
Diagnostic reports, only when you send one
From RealCam Hub, the installer or the phone apps you can send us a diagnostic report. It contains technical information: app and Windows or phone versions, device model, processor architecture, which programs use the ports RealCam needs, installed antivirus products, update history, recent RealCam events and the list of recent records (game, date, length, size, frame rate). Before sending, RealCam removes Windows user names and folder paths, your PC name, e-mail addresses, tokens, pairing and access codes, phone names, serial numbers and IP addresses. Your videos are never included. A report sent from the installer before you sign in is not linked to an account.
iOS beta (TestFlight) requests
If you ask to join the iOS beta, we store the e-mail address you give us for the TestFlight invitation, with your Patreon name, e-mail and membership state. We send the invitation to Apple ourselves.
Downloads
When RealCam Hub, the installer or the Android app downloads a RealCam update or installer, we record which account received which version, with the file's fingerprint, the installation identifier (hashed, for RealCam Hub and the installer), the kind of program that downloaded it (for example RealCam Hub or a browser), the country Cloudflare reports and a keyed one-way hash of the IP address and of its network. This is how we find out who received a copy shared without permission and spot unusual downloads. The IP address itself is not stored.
When you download the Android app from the download page, we keep the browser's user agent and the country Cloudflare reports. Download counts per month are kept as totals only.
Private collaborator links
For private links we send to testers and collaborators, we store the name entered, the e-mail given for TestFlight, and the IP address and country of the first visit and of each download, to protect the link from being shared.
Security and abuse prevention
To limit abuse we count requests per IP address. These counters store only a one-way hash of the address and are deleted within two days. Cloudflare, which runs our servers, also processes technical request data (IP address, time, requested address, browser) to deliver and protect the service, and keeps short technical logs.
What stays on your devices
- Camera and motion. The phone apps use the camera and motion sensors to track the phone's position and to read the pairing QR code. This data is sent only to the PC you paired, on your local network, and is not stored by us.
- Live view. The game picture is streamed from your PC to your phone on your local network.
- Records. Recordings are saved on your PC (in Videos\RealCam Records by default). If you save one on your iPhone, the app adds it to a "RealCam" album; it does not read your other photos.
- Pairing. During pairing your phone tells your PC its model name and app version.
- Logs. RealCam Hub keeps technical logs on your PC and deletes them after 14 days.
The Android app uses Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) for motion tracking. Google's processing for that service is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
RealCam does not use the microphone or your location.
Why we use it, and on what basis
- Providing RealCam to members (account, membership checks, devices, sessions, updates, iOS beta invitations): needed to perform our agreement with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Diagnostic reports: your choice to send one, and our legitimate interest in fixing the problem you report (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Security, abuse prevention, download statistics and service logs: our legitimate interest in keeping RealCam safe and working (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Legal obligations, when the law requires us to keep or disclose something (Article 6(1)(c)).
How long we keep it
- Account and membership data: as long as your account exists. Ask us and we delete it.
- Devices: until signed out; signed-out devices are deleted 90 days later.
- Sign-in sessions and access codes: deleted 30 days after they expire; one-time sign-in codes after one day.
- Account security logs: 90 days.
- Diagnostic reports: 30 days.
- Rejected iOS beta requests: 90 days after review.
- Download and collaborator link logs: 90 days.
- Monthly activity statistics (which device was used in a month, without content): 24 months.
- Abuse-prevention counters: up to two days.
Cookies
The website uses only cookies that are strictly needed for signing in, so no consent banner is needed. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
- Patreon sign-in check: 15 minutes.
- iOS beta page session: 30 minutes.
- Private collaborator link session: 24 hours.
- Older licence claim page: a session of up to 7 days and a one-time message.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to receive it in a portable format, to restrict its use, and to object to uses based on our legitimate interest. Write to leolaune30@me.com; we answer within one month. You can also delete your RealCam data by asking us to close your account.
If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or to the authority of your country.
Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are never handled by RealCam: you sign in through Patreon or with an access code. Tokens and codes are stored hashed, access passes are signed, and the admin tools sit behind an additional sign-in.
Children
RealCam is not meant for children under 15 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Patreon itself requires its users to be at least 18, or 13 with a parent's permission.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. For an important change we will also tell members on Patreon or in the apps.
